How Does the Behringer X32 Sound?
Clean and quiet, according to the people who measured it.
Sound On Sound ran Audio Precision tests and said the results closely matched Behringer’s specs. The reviewer found the preamps clean and usefully quiet, with enough gain for live sound.
Behringer lists a 72 dB gain range in 0.5 dB steps, a maximum input level of +23 dBu, and converters with 114 dB of dynamic range.
Are the preamps really Midas?
Behringer says a dedicated Midas engineering team designed the input topology. Sound On Sound says the circuitry resembles the Midas Pro 2 and beats any earlier Behringer design.
Owners disagree on how far that goes. A touring engineer on Sweetwater says he does not buy that these match Midas preamps on desks costing five times more, yet he thinks they sound good. A 2026 reviewer rated the mic preamps five stars while criticizing the operating system.
My take is simple. The preamps sound good, and the price is the reason people buy this desk!
Do the aux inputs get the same processing?
No. AudioTechnology notes that the six aux inputs and the USB input use a shorter signal path, with no gate or compressor section.
Sound On Sound adds that the 32 mic preamps accept line level sources too. Use the mic channels for anything that needs full processing 👍
How Hard Is the Behringer X32 to Learn?
This is where opinions split.
One Sweetwater reviewer says to expect 40 hours of trial and error just to get a few monitor mixes and effects in order. A 2026 reviewer calls the operating system kludgy and found sending effects to monitors frustrating.
Others report the opposite. A 2020 reviewer says you can begin basic mixing within an hour of unboxing, and advanced techniques take longer.
A pattern shows up across the reviews I read. Owners grumble about routing, effects, and monitor mixes, and they rarely grumble about sound!

Which Apps Control the Behringer X32 Today?
MX-Mix for tablets, MX-Q for phones, and X32-Edit for computers.
Sweetwater’s mobile app guide explains that Music Tribe released MX-Mix for iPad and Android tablets in 2023, and MX-Q for iPhone and Android phones. They replace older apps that no longer work on current iOS, iPadOS, and Android.
Old tutorials still mention XiControl, X32-Mix, and X32-Q. Sweetwater says those are no longer supported!
Do you need a router?
Yes. Sweetwater says to connect the Ethernet Remote port to an external Wi-Fi router with a Cat 5 cable.
Then open Setup and Network on the console and turn on DHCP mode. Write down the IP address the router assigns.
How well do the apps work?
Mixed. Behringer’s own roadmap thread shows owners reporting MX-Q connection trouble on newer iOS versions. One fix that worked was allowing the app’s local network permission.
Sweetwater also points to Mixing Station, a third party app popular with many users. Gearspace members recommend it too.
My take is to test the Behringer apps first and keep Mixing Station in mind as a backup 📱
What Can the Behringer X32 Record?
Up to 32 tracks over USB. Behringer lists 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz operation at 24 bit.
Sweetwater says Windows needs a driver and Macs need none. The front USB port also records and plays back 16 bit WAV files, so format your stick as FAT32 first.
What is virtual soundcheck?
You record a band once, then play the tracks back through the console to dial in the mix without the band in the room.
One Sweetwater reviewer, a drummer, recorded his own kit and then set the mix while the tracks looped back. He says nobody else had to play his drums 🥁
Which expansion cards exist?
The X32 ships with the X-USB card. Behringer lists these swap in options.

How Do the S16 and AES50 Work Together?
The X32 has two AES50 ports for digital snakes. Behringer says each port cascades up to three S16 stage boxes, which gives you up to 96 inputs and 48 returns.
Sound On Sound measured about 0.25 ms of network latency, so analog in to analog out through a stage box lands near 1 ms.
Two X32 consoles can also share signals over AES50. A worship pastor on Sweetwater runs a second X32 in a livestream room and routes channels and buses between it and the sanctuary board.

Here are the honest drawbacks.
